Meet the Designer
Zainab is an artist, illustrator, designer, and plant enthusiast living in Ottawa. When she moved to a new home, she started looking for unique furniture and solutions to display her expanding plant collection. From Ikea greenhouse cabinets to homemade macrame she tried it all and faced various problems with each of them. Soon after, she started daydreaming about stands and hangers to solve problems like leaves getting caught in the ropes of hangers, water dripping onto the floors, and stands not matching her taste in decor. This progressed to sketching a few ideas for stands and the rest is history. When she’s not coming up with new ideas for plant furniture that will solve all her problems, she is making art, hiking, traveling, or tending to her plants. Zainab has a multidisciplinary art practice that involves installations, textiles, sound, text, plants, paint, and photography. And when she’s not doing any of the above, she’s making silly little comics about life, art, and the things we think but don’t say.
Sustainable and Ethical
We believe that choosing sustainability and ethical practices is no longer optional but a responsibility.
We work with a multi-generation family-owned wood workshop in Mumbai, India that makes paying fair wages a priority, and employs wood workers that are skilled and experienced artisans in polish and staining.
Our products are made from rubber wood. Using rubber wood extends the life of the tree as they are initially planted to harvest natural latex and are cut down once the tree reaches the end of its productive life. New trees are planted where the old ones are removed, and the trees that are cut down will be burned or go to waste if not used for other purposes.
Because we value sustainability over appearances our packaging may look simple, but it is all made from recycled materials and is 100% recyclable. Our furniture is also flat packed for home assembly to reduce packaging.
